Dear Mr. Brown,
I am totally against Self-Realization moving
Paramhansa Yogananda's remains to Mt. Washington. From actions of
theirs in the past, they have proven to be untrustworthy.
I went down to Mt. Washington to visit
Yogananda's room in the early 80's. This has become a shrine. They
told me it was closed because they were cleaning it. I thought, Oh
well, bad timing and left.
A year later, I made the trip from No.
California again. I was told the same thing. What took place then
was interesting. I complained strongly letting them know I had come
quite a distance and this was the second time I was denied access
because of "cleaning it." The nun told me to wait a
moment. She made a call and in very short order a monk showed up and
escorted me up to Yogananda's room. I thought I'd see some sign of
them "cleaning it:" perhaps someone coming out with
cleaning implements or a vacuum cleaner in the hall, maybe even a
can of Endust--SOMETHING! There was no sign anywhere that there had
been any cleaning going on.
You may think this isn't a big deal. But on
principal, I feel that it truly is. It shows they do what they
please. Yogananda's crypt is the one shrine they do not control and
many people would like to keep it that way. They should see their
role as one of stewardship, not ownership of Yogananda. He came for
the world and there should be free world access, not tight control
at their whim. They do not show much regard for "devotees"
of Yogananda that are not part of their organization.
Even their own members find the organization hard and
unfeeling towards their treatment of them and others. But this is
all I want to say on this issue. Thank you for your time and may God
guide you in your decision.
Sincerely,
Krishna
Das Locicero
