Dear Mr. Brown:
As you may know in many eastern and Hindu
traditions, pilgrimage is considered a spiritual duty. Pilgrimage
to, and meditation and prayer practiced in the presence of the guru,
even his body left behind after it's death, bestows great blessings
upon the devotee. Even Self Realization Fellowship claims to have
hundreds of thousands of members, which one would assume are
disciples of Paramhansa Yogananda. As the numbers of Yogananda
disciple grow, the desire to visit the resting place of his body
will be felt by more and more people.
This can only INCREASE the amount of TRAFFIC in
and out of the Mount Washington neighborhood. The alternative that
SRF proposes whereby access may have to be limited is shortsighted
and restrictive to the freedom of worship so central to our culture
here in the USA!!
Based upon their history, SRF has shown a
propensity for controlling every situation they can. With most, if
not all, non card carrying members of SRF, it is "SRF's way or
the highway". There is no historical basis to think they will
change this philosophy in allowing access to Yogananda's body in
their "private Mausoleum".
Leave the body at Forest Lawn where FREE ACCESS
for ALL devotees and pilgrims regardless of religious affiliation.
Please do not approve this part of the plan.
Thank you,
A non-SRF devotee of Yogananda
Kent Williams
