Dear Mr. Brown:
In reference to the plans of SRF to move the
body of Paramhansa Yogananda to Mt. Washington, I would like to
express my strong opinion against this plan.
There are many reasons why this would not be in the best
interest of those of us at Ananda and for the residents of Mt.
Washington. In the interest of your time, I will only address the
issue that seems the most important to me.
Pilgrimmage is an important aspect of most
religions and spiritual paths. Currently I live in Ananda Assisi and
frequently I have the opportunity to visit the Holy Places of St.
Francis. People come from all over the world to visit his tomb and
other holy places pertaining to him.
In this same regard, many devotees from both
SRF and Ananda Communities will continue to make pilgrimmages to the
burial place of Paramhansa Yogananda. Usually when we go on these
pilgrimmages we travel in large buses. Is there even enough space on
the roads up to Mt. Washington to accommodate these buses? And what
kind of impact will this kind of traffic and congestion have on the
residents of Mt. Washinton?
Our community here is a little outside of
Assisi in a remote, rural area. I deeply appreciate the peace and
solitude it provides. I
am sure the residents of Mt. Washington probably feel the same way
about their home.
You have a job that I in no way envy. I read
the notes on the first public hearing, what a mess! All the chaos
and disrespect would have done me in. I am sure you face this kind
of thing quite often, so my prayers are with you.
May God bless you with His infinite peace and
joy.
Sincerely,
Rethel L. Rodgers, R. N.
